MY FAVORITE PLACE

by:  Thomas Wisinski Age 9 Grade 3

My favorite place is the stables.  The stables are as much fun as meeting an actor or an actress and talking with them all day long.

While I walk up to the stable, I can smell the smells like horse poo and hay.  I really don't mind the smells, but my sister puts her fingers on her nose to keep all the smells away from her.  In the winter, it is not so bad but, when summertime comes around it is so smelly it is even smelly in the office.  This is not my favorite thing about the stables but I tell you that Ilike it!  It is, when you walk into the office and find out who you are assigned to ride!  I think it is heart throbbing to find out who you are riding in the lesson.  Sometimes the person that is working in the office can tell you right away, but... sometimes you need to wait for them tothink of who you can ride in the lesson.  Every once in a while there comes a GIRL who doesn't want to ride one of the horses in the barn.  I can't

believe it!  Like Pacman for instance.  Nobody wants to ride him because he bucked somebody off in a lesson.  You have to watch out not to get there too early because there might not  be anyone there!  If you don't listen to me then you will be waiting there helplessly.  After you find out who you are riding. Go find that horse.  Once you know where the horse is you need to go get your saddle they provide for you or if you own one then get yours.  Once you get your saddle bring it over to yours horse stall.  Then, get a bridle, halter, lead rope, and bring them over to your horse stall.  If your horse looks all dusty your horse was probably rolling around in it's stall or it was in there too long.  If so...walk into the tack room and find three different kinds of brushes.  I will explain the three brushes from the roughtest to the softest.  The first one, the roughest is is made out of rubber, it has short stubby knobs that break up the heavy mud.  The second one is the mid brush, the mid brush has long stiff bristles that are rough and made for getting the light mud out.   Last but not least is the soft brush, the soft brush has long bristles like the other one but they are soft.  This brush is made for making the horse look clean.  There are a lot of other things I like about the stables, but these are my two favorite things.  The thing I am going to tell you about next is almost tied with my last thing but here it is!  I love to go on trail rides that the owner sets up.  Some of the things I like about the trail rides are how the wind blows thru your hair when you are loping or galloping.  Also, I love that when you are out there the horses love the wide open air and just run, run, run, their hearts out!  Last but not least, is the classic riding around in a circle during lessons.  I love it because the hoses love to be ridden.  Another thing is the surprise to see and hear, when or what the instructor will call out.  During lessons there are four things that you can do. Walk is a slow form of riding.  Trot is a type of riding that is faster than a walk.  Lope is another form of riding that is faster than both a walk and a trot.  Last is a gallop, a gallop is just like a lope but faster.  The main thing I like about riding is that you can clear your mind, have fun, concentrate on what you are doing, and letting yourself go free!  Just you and your horse. Now do you like horses?  I know I do!!!!

The End.
